Soccer Success!
The boys from St. James’ School, Cappagh had qualified for the county final of the Spar FAI Primary School 5’s competition. On April 26th there were 5 teams in the final round robin and we had to play Granagh, Glengurt, Nicker and Cloverfield. We had a great start to the day scoring 4 goals and holding Granagh scoreless. Next up was Glengurt who proved more formidable opposition and this match ended a 1 – 1 draw. Our third match was against Nicker and this encounter went our way in the form of a 2 nil victory. Our final challenge was against Cloverfield and our lads enjoyed a goal fest and ran out winners with a 10 – 1 scoreline. Our scorers on this most enjoyable day of soccer were John Fitzgerald, Stephen Young and Cian Costelloe. Jamie Young put in a titanic effort in midfield and our defence was policed tightly by full back Aidan O’ Shea and goalie Will Whelan. Cian Costelloe, Patrick Enright and Shane McNamara made valuable contributions when coming on as subs. The boys were presented with their county winners medals by Barbara Bermingham (local organiser). Next month these boys will represent their school and county in the Munster Finals which will be held in Tralee.
Go on lads!
The girls team played some great soccer to finish runners-up to a fine Croagh squad. They held Knockainey to a nil all draw, and finished the day with a 2 – 1 win against St. Fergus. Best of luck to Croagh girls team in the Munster Finals.
